Comic Book Discussion Thread (Marvel, DC, Image, Dark Horse, Top Cow, IDW, Indy, etc)

Took me a while to find this in hardcover but I got this:

Another reboot, or I guess this is "rebirth". Like another poster mentioned above (and I've posted a few times), I enjoy stuff released by Image so much more than the big two. Then stuff put out by IDW like TMNT. Even other things like Squarriors and Mercy Sparx by Devil's Due. My favorite thing put out by DC has been the He-Man comics of the last few years. Much less baggage than the main line Avengers, Justice League, etc. And they don't just cut half the plots off when they decide they are convoluted (destroy the universe and we can ignore what we want).

I've picked up good things by just going to the local comic/record store and browsing Image or the small publishers section. I just got the first few issues of Clean Room because it looked cool. Really like it so far. Same thing with Red One.

Does anyone know what's up with The New Avengers #7? Previews World didn't list that issue in yesterday's releases, so I didn't ask about it. However, IGN reviewed the issue and all the websites besides Previews World list the release date as 2/24. PW has the issue listed for next week. Did it come out yet or not?

Thanks. I confirmed that with the owner of the shop I go to, but they were hours away from opening when I read the review and asked about that here. Scans of the full issue are already online, so I guess some people got their hands on it.

Since I forgot earlier, here's what I bought yesterday:

• All-New Inhumans #4

The GoHastings.com deal of the day is used graphic novels and trades are all $2.99 with code DealoftheDay . Go crazy.

Edit: Nevermind, it was yesterday's deal. GoHastings kinda sucks in putting their daily deals up on a normal basis.

Aside from being movie ads you pay for, Time Warner and Disney don't give a shit about comics.
Bingo, if the comic industry goes bust again, despite the fact it's owned by 2 major corporations this could be it. Marvel/Disney much more than DC/WB but Disney will cut the print industry in a heartbeat if it starts costing them any profit margins. Digital less likely to be completely gone but like that article says, they need to be more mindful of a long term industry than short term gains.

My pickup for this week:

Black Widow #1

Dark Knight III Master Race #3

Invincible Iron Man #7

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #1

Old Man Logan #3

You guys might be disappointed with the first issue. There's barely any dialogue at all. Natasha herself literally only says 2 words. It was a 5 minute read.

Looks like Batman v. Superman is getting mixed reviews. I am a big Batman fan and I still want to watch it, but I am keep my exception very low. Civil war should be good though.

Man of Steel should be indication if you like it or not (hated that damn film to no end).

Nevermind! I Can totally skip Batman Vs Superman thanks to Snyder's dumbass quote of how because the Starkiller in Force Awakens destroys five planets then it's okay for Batman and Superman to kill in his films.

I just saw it and it is really bad. No point to the movie and the story is just a mess. I thought the Man of Steel movie was better and I hated that movie too. That's like comparing two shits together, which there is no real point because both are still shit. Only cool part was seeing Wonder Woman on the big screen and I already seen that part thanks to the trailers before hand.

Well, that's the course for DC movies for the next decade or so...

I like a lot of the creative teams DC announced, but I'm still sad that they're canceling pretty much all their stuff I read besides Justice League (plus solo titles related to certain members) and Harley Quinn. Martian Manhunter, Starfire, Midnighter, Black Canary... gonna miss those.

Im all in for "ALL STAR BATMAN"!
I will be definitely picking that one up along with Batman, Wonder Woman, Detective Comics, and the Justice League. I'm also interested in Nightwing, Titans, Green Lanterns, Batman Beyond, Flash, Supergirl, and maybe Batgirl. Not sure if I can pick up all those weekly but I'll definitely get them in tpb.

That sucks but at least Tom King is doing Batman now so you can get that on your pull list now, since you liked the Vision. I am sad to see Synder go but I am very curious about the direction that King will take Batman since I never read anything by him but I heard he's very talented.

With the rebirth reboot coming, has it been discussed what changes are actually happening to the DC universe? I tried to google it, but didn't see anything.

Is this going to be another active universe in the multiverse, or just changing around the status quo? I mostly read Batman and there were a few big changes in the Batman universe with the  New 52 - like Barbara no longer being Oracle, Catwoman not knowing Batman's identity, Harley's origin, etc.

It just seems weird that they are rebooting again only 5 years after the last reboot. I  enjoyed the New 52, and it let me jump onto a few character who I had never followed before like Animal Man and Swamp Thing.

I had never read any Tom King or Vision comics prior to The Vision, and it's wonderful. I highly recommend it.

I'm very very excited to see what he does with Batman.

Interested in some of the titles, but SO GODDAMN TIRED OF REBOOTS. I May just get two or three and save the rest for Hastings sales if they're good.

I think this rebirth thing they are doing is suppose to only last two years. So they are probably going to do some kind of reboot after that too. At least that's what I got when I heard that they said that rebirth is going to last for two years.

Supposedly the rebirth one shot in May is suppose to explain everything along with the individual character rebirth one-shot later.

Yeah, the only reason I didn't keep up with the New 52 Batman series was because I wanted to start from the beginning via TPB. But I did get #50.

I'm also going to start following the Superman titles. I've been reading miniseries focused on the character, but Justice League and JLA have been my only mainline DC books that included Superman. I ordered all the Super-books leading up to Rebirth already. And now I read that both Superman and Action Comics will star the pre-Flashpoint Superman from the Lois & Clark miniseries, and that has me a lot more excited for those titles.

Lightest week in ages in terms of quantity:

• All-New All-Different Marvel Universe #1
• All-New X-Men #7
• Amazing Spider-Man #1.4
• Back to the Future #6
• Batman & Robin Eternal #26
• Captain America: Sam Wilson #7
• Daredevil #5
• Darth Vader #18
• Drax #5
• Ghostbusters International #3
• Justice League of America #8
• Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Deviations #1
• Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #6
• X-Men '92 #1

I'm looking through a copy of signed comics recently and am surprised at where many young artists and writers today got their start. Like Superman's Ed McGuinness doing the cover of some schlocky horror comic or Scott Snyder's writing Human Torch.

Read the first volume of Batman Eternal. Interesting stuff.

I Gotta say, even if the new Star Wars movie is god fucking awful, the comic series (and now Vader Down) have made me enjoy Star Wars again.
I finally saw SWTFA and I was disappointed. JJ is almost as big of a hack as Joss Whedon...Almost.

Frank Miller is only in his 50s, and he looks worse than Dick Van Dyke. My friend says the only thing keeping him going is pure hatred.

There have been so many cool things since Daredevil and DKR, and yet the DC media machine is still influenced by his works. That is a bummer. Look at Image, it's not about edgy and gritty anymore.
His works are the definitive stories for some characters. Daredevil on Netflix is based on his run and JRJRs mini series, so it isn't just DC that is influenced by his work. He shaped daredevil just like Neal Adams did to Batman and Alan Moore did to Joker. Basically you wouldn't have today's versions of those characters without them. Regardless of your views of him as a person his body of work speaks for itself.

I would like to hear what you think is as good as those runs today, so I can read them. I find other than indie books, the stories as a whole are disappointing in current comics (last 15 years).

------------

Random:

I finally finished Fables. It was a bit of an undertaking and I only read the main series and a couple of the minis. I didn't read Jack of Fables b/c I find him annoying as a character. It was a pretty solid series. I recommended it to my friend that is a teacher for her high school students. I would also like BONE to be required reading for elementary students.

--

Haven't seen BvS yet, but I saw the director interviewed and he didn't mention FM or DKR and was talking about how HE wanted an older Batman to fight superman (like he came up with the concept-and yes I know B&S fought before DKR). I guess I'll see soon enough if he blatantly ripped off DKR or if he did something different.

--

I'm happy that they are making an animated version of The Killing Joke, but kinda bummed they added the prologue to appease certain "factions". I'm sure they will find something to complain about anyway, since the whole story wasn't rewritten to have Batgirl save the day.

I'm hoping in the rewrite she will have an exoskeleton and that she paralyses the joker for not treating Harley Quinn as an equal partner, for the fact that the joker twins were paid less than his other thugs, or because he made a snide comment on instagram that made someone feel 'fat shamed'. All of those being more important offenses than him being a serial killer. ;)
