John Cena's wrestling topic

Well I guess Mayweather is not a pussy, might be a case of more guts than brains though:

We can confirm that boxing champion Floyd Joy Mayweather, Jr. is scheduled to be wrestling at WrestleMania 24, instead of standing at ringside or being a special guest referee. Reports are suggesting that he will most likely be involved in a tag-team match. Assuming Rey Mysterio will be healthy enough to wrestle at WrestleMania 24, he will be Mayweather’s tag-team partner and will go against The Big Show and a tag-team partner of his. (Shane)

I don't know how vindictive Show is, but this could be bad for Floyd. At least it's not Umaga.
Was show not supposed to get punched like that?
Given the amount of blood pouring out of Show's nose and that he was spitting a lot of blood too, I'd say no. At first I thought he might've had teeth knocked out, but the replay showed Mayweather nailing Show with an uppercut to the nose. I mean seriously, what was he thinking?

Gabe Sapolsky's Letter to the ROH Roster

Here's the letter, in its entirety:

Hello everyone,
Please take some time and read this and make sure all the points sink in. It will make this a better company for all of us.

You will all be hearing from me in the next week or so with a bunch of notes about upcoming direction. Here are some quick thoughts on how we can all pull together as a team and improve the shows. I am going to keep repeating these things until they become second nature. I believe these things will help us tighten up our shows and in turn everyone will have a better and easier chance to get over. I think our shows are too long now and we are burning out our crowd. We are leaving them tired after the show instead of satisfied, but wanting more. I think that just by tightening up a few areas we can eliminate this and make the people satisfied, but hungry for more and then hopefully buying more live event tickets.

1) STAY IN YOUR TIME, STAY IN YOUR TIME, STAY IN YOUR TIME. The simple fact is that our shows run much smoother and have the right peaks and valleys and the crowd stays strong until the end if everyone stays in their time. Now you might think to yourself "what's the big deal if I go 1-2 minutes over." Well add it up. Lets say there are 8 matches, 6 go over by an average of 90 seconds (and this is on the low end of some of our shows as far as matches going over). Well that's nine minutes of nothing but wrestling added to the show. This means the people are really seeing an extra match by the time the main event goes on. We are simply giving them way too much when matches go over. If this is a problem with ref cues, let me know so we can correct it.

2) Stay on me about angles and promo time. I have to admit that I have done a poor job on some things lately, one of which is following up on angles on a consistent show-to-show basis. If you were in a big angle on one show and then you see there is nothing following up on it the next weekend, get on me about at least doing a promo on it or something. Stay on me about "what is going on next" or "what is going on this weekend with that angle we did last show" so that nothing falls to the wayside. Also, I have talked to some of you and been approached by some of you about doing promos and stuff. So far no one has really followed up with me. Please stay on me about this. Demand your promo time and that your storylines are adequately followed up on. I will get with you in the next week or so and then you will have a better idea of your direction, which will make it easier for you to come to me with ideas. I know this falls in my hands to improve and I am working on it. Just stay on me about it.

3) Another place we lose time is ring entrances, the time between the final ring entrance and the opening bell and then postmatch. Don't take a lot of time with these things. Unless your ring entrance has a special spot like the people yelling "The Final Countdown" during Bryan's entrance then do your thing, but don't take more time than needed. The main place I'd like to cut down on time is when the final ring entrance song ends and the opening bell rings. If every match takes 90 seconds here that can add another 10 minutes or so to the show. Now add that to the 9 minutes that all the matches went over and we've added 19 unnecessary minutes to the show. This is where the crowds are getting burned out. Finally, post match. If you are over get your hand raised, strike your post and get out while the crowd is still hot and hungry to see more of you. If you are under sell what you need to or better yet sell to the back or let yourself get carried to the back quickly if you took something big. Let the winner have the spotlight and comeback ready to fight another day. Attention students/graduates, you need to be there quick to help the guy that went under if he needs to be carried to the back. Now if we can take off a minute from each postmatch which is 7 minutes and add that to the 19 we lose on people going over/ring entrances & prematch and now we have shaved 26 minutes off the show and we are having nice 3 hour shows into 3 1/2 hour marathons.

Also, Bobby, Wayne, Mary, Refs- Lets cut the time in between matches way down. I know the camera guys need time in between certain matches to switch tapes, but they do this pretty quickly. In NOAH they have the music for the next match playing like 10-20 seconds after the guy is through the curtain from the previous match. What do we need to do to cut down on this time between matches? We can easily shave another 3-5 minutes here.

4) Don't swear. There is more and more swearing sneaking its way back into things. I know I have threatened fines in the past and haven't followed through, but I'm really thinking it'll be the only way to finally eliminate swearing.

5) One thing I would like to see everyone doing is cutting promos on your way to the back postmatch, especially if you go over. Cameraman Jimmy is usually in your face with the floor camera on your way back down the aisle and this is usually dead time on the DVD. Take this 30 seconds and cut a quick promo into the camera that gets people interested in what you are doing in the future. For instance, lets say you are in a feud with Austin Aries. On your way to the back just hit a line like "That's a message to you Austin Aries, I want a match soon." A prime example of this is on the Man Up PPV. Claudio and Nigel both cut promos in the aisle way on their way to the back. They each ended up with extra airtime because the promos were short and to the point and gave their character easy to follow direction into the future. Aries & Steen are also good examples on recent DVDs.

Anyway, thanks for reading all this. Let me know your thoughts. I have been getting some good work done and will be in contact in the next week or so with direction.

Thank you,
Gabe

It's in Long Island. I'm thinking about e-mailing RoH and telling them to give the tickets to someone else since the cost of getting to show will be $40 and then I'd have to head back to NYC the next night for the show there.

Unless anyone else wants to take them off my hands.

That why I generally hate non-wrestlers being used in a wrestling role.

Yeah, my mistake. I was thinking of the town where the Dead and Phish always played (not that I ever went to a damned hippie concert, I'm just sayin').

I take it that ROH letter wasn't supposed to be made public, eh? At any rate, I really dig a lot of what he's saying there. He comes off as humble and open (which is great for wrestlers), but also has a vision and concrete ideas for how to improve their shows.

Seems Smackdown's down to two different stations. But considering who they are,.

TVWeek.com is reporting that the bidding for the future home of WWE Smackdown is down to two companies: MyNetworkTV and Tribune, which owns Superstation WGN on cable.

According to the article, "MyNetworkTV would bring the program back to the former UPN affiliates that once had the property. Tribune has a number of options for where it could put Smackdown, including Superstation WGN. Tribune was a surprise entry in the bidding, with most pundits expecting NBC to be one of the last bidders standing."

Tribune recently brought in former FOX TV president Ed Wilson to oversee changes to the channel's programming line-up. MyNetwork president Greg Meidel has been in charge for over a year, and has tried to revamp the network's line-up of shows. For many former UPN affiliations, it would simply be a return of Smackdown to the current MyNet affiliate that aired Smackdown before the show moved to the CW.
Something weird popped up into our release list a week or so ago. "WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 08: Superstar Edition", scheduled for the end of March, for 29.99. I saw nothing on the net about it, nothing at Gamestop's site about it.. no idea what the hell it is, i'll see if I can find out more information.

//edit: This listing was for PS2, and only PS2.
be nice if it was the full game and not just an add on disc. shocked they would put it out just for ps2.

unless its someting like this

http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product_id=270140

where they just rerelease the game and toss in a bunch of crap to try to make it sell

Taking Smackdown from the CW to WGN or MyNetworkTV is a huge step down. Both of those options are less than appetizing. Maybe TNT would work.

Just kidding.
be nice if it was the full game and not just an add on disc. shocked they would put it out just for ps2.
Well, for the first few months the game was out, it actually sold more copies on the PS2 than any other system(the 360 version was 2nd in sales). Maybe THQ took that into consideration? I would like to know what the hell it is though. Better not be some stripped-down WM themed game, much like 2K did a couple years ago with a "World Series Edition" of their MLB game..

Perhaps it's just the PS2 game with the PSP-exclusive wrestlers thrown in.

Today's Observer site news update has more on the plans for Mayweather, stating that the current idea is for the match to be Rey and Mayweather against Show and a mystery partner -
http://www.wrestlingobserver.com/wo/news/headlines/default.asp?aID=22117

Since Shane got involved last night, has history with Show, and of course, is a McMahon in a high-profile match, I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up being the mystery partner.

Excellent PPV overall - the opener was decent, the SD chamber was great once Khali and V were gone, Rey-Edge was short but told a great story thanks to Rey's injury, then we got the Mayweather-Show confrontation, which was just fantastic.

The crowd got hotter and hotter for it as it went on, then Mayweather came in, clocked him, ran off in a daze with his crew (which is what I loved more than anything else they did, as they slipped, tripped, fell, and added to the reality of it), then Show looked like he wanted to just kill them all, but was held off by Shane. Just glorious stuff, and a fan saying "Which way did he go, Show?!" while Shane consoled Show got a laugh of me. Pure greatness in that segment, which is good, because then Adamle spoke, screwed up the name of the company, and a fan with a WWF-logod Smoking Skull belt mugged for the camera.

Kennedy-Flair was a bit short, but quite good, with Kennedy pulling off some moves that I wasn't expecting (like the ringpost figure 4), and losing clean to the master of the figure 4 after trying to beat Flair with his own move earlier. In the past, I've mentioned that I subscribe to idea that the master of a move will do more damage with it than a guy just doing it, and that held up here.

The WWE Title match was fine - nothing particularly memorable, but an okay match that told a good story. Orton being a pure dick heel in it was fantastic, although I question the wisdom of having Orton get FUed and choked out in one night.

The Raw chamber was fantastic aside from some very small lulls when Umaga just stood around. Jericho and Michaels got it started with a good little mini-match full of cradles, near falls and the like, then Umaga came in and just massacred them - easily the job they've done of rebuilding him as a monster heel since the latter half of '07 that saw his stock drop.

The crossface/Walls combo was nice to see again, and served as a somewhat logic way to have the action stop in the ring while they did the dramatic shit with the "who will be next?" music and lighting. Otherwise, I liked seeing JBL eliminated, but get revenge on both Jericho and Umaga with the chairshots, the fast-paced elimination of HBK, followed by Hardy taking the pedigree but kicking out was exciting, and Jeff was protected very well in losing. Everyone was protected fairly well, actually. Very impressive match overall.
Mike Adamle needs to go. He screws up everytime and doesn't look like he gives a care about anything relating to what he is saying.
Jeff Harvy

Ha! In that Big Show segment, did anyone else catch the fan who kept yelling "WHICH WAY DID HE GO? WHICH WAY DID HE GO?" Nice reference to the Shane/Show feud from back in the day (unless I just misheard the chant completely, which is entirely possible).

But he was the Gladiators announcer man, the Gladiators announcer.

That brings back memories. That Shane spot is still awesome. And it happened in Chicago too ;)

What we learned from the opening of RAW this week:

A) Triple H is capable of keeping his entrance to under 10 minutes.
B) John Cena is a racist.
C) Apparently Cena getting himself DQed last year against Orton is fair yet Orton doing the same thing suddenly means he should have an * by his name now.
D) So Triple H's name is now "Triple Haych" now according to one William Regal.
Wait, what the fuck is this? Bring back Jeff's old music. Ahhhhh.
Seriously. That song is way to laid back for someone like Jeff.

Jeff Hardy's music sounds like that tripe on the Smackdown vs. Raw titles.

Jeff vs Snitsky, ya... I can see Snitsky in the MITB match

Jeff's got to be the heavy favorite to win this year's MITB. Um... bank on it.

Jeff's new musice sucks.

And when the fuck is he gonna defend the damn belt already? Jesus Christ the last time was that 0.7-second match when Orton got hmself DQed.

I'm waiting for Snitsky to be in a "Colgate on a Pole" match.

I actually thought it was Rick Astley.

And on that note.... can they just put one of those big black bars or blur our Snitsky any time soon? He looks god awful on my HD set.
