It happens every year, and every year people are still somehow surprised that they weren't surprised, and disappointed that their run away hype turned out to be nothing.

I mean I like E3, but I probably only still like it because I managed to reign my expectations in check a long time ago. I guess unrealistic amounts of hype can be fun for people too though.

Same here man. People always ask me why I am so pessimistic. I usually have to remind them that I am almost always happier than they are because I try to lower my expectations. I would much rather be pleasantly surprised than disappointed.

Perhaps I will get one some day without the Kinect. Probably at least a year out. Maybe when they release Gears of War and maybe another price drop or sale. MS really seems to be a bit lost lately with their some of their products (Win 8).

i'll decide after i see more on gears of war. no other exclusive they have interests me that much(that's been announced so far). it'll still likely be a long time either way, and ps4 will still be in my room first.

It's a smart move since everyone pretty much universally agrees it sucks. I'm still going to try my best to stick to one console this gen. I'm tired of backlog. PS4 has already proven to be the more powerful console so the xbone will need some super amazing exclusives to get me to consider it in a few years. Who am I kidding I'll probably still be working on PS3\XBOX backlog. Ugh.

I have a few friends that loved Killer Instinct and aren't happy with the Xbox One version. Pick one up when the next Gen comes out and MS is giving an Xbox One away as a preorder bonus.

I'm ashamed to admit part of me just wants it for a way to play the original KI in a non-emulated way.
 
I don't get Microsoft's move. They drop the Kinect to match the PS4's price. They drop the Gold paywall to match PS4's streaming options. They expend Games for Gold to One to match PS Plus.

Where does that leave them? With a giant box that's underpowered compared to the PS4 and has no real platform differentiation. Halo in 2015 and a CG Gears video at E3 aren't going turn it into a hunting dog. The EA deal -- lead platform for all sports games -- is the best thing it's got going for it now.

I think even Gears needs to do something better this time around. I liked the games (played 1&2) but it's starting to get uninteresting now after 4 titles in 1 generation. I guess I'm just not as hyped about it like I was when 1 came out.

I kind of agree. Also Destiny might be close enough in game play (not sold on it yet though) for me anyway.

 
I know this is a super late to the game question but I really enjoyed Unit 13 on Vita. Wondering...would I like Socom 4 on PS3? Mainly only looking to play the single player campaign.

 
At this point, only a GTA V-sized hit is really going to interest me enough to buy an XB1.  I burnt out on Halo and never bothered to finish #4, have no interest in Gears and can get my zombie fix elsewhere.

Because it was worse before? This is progress and I'm sure it all has to do with the new guy in charge (Spencer instead of that asshole Mattrick who's rotting in Zynga hell right now). It's good to see GWG on XB1 finally able to go toe-to-toe with PS+ on PS4 (they're pretty much the same thing now).

I'm sure Kinect will still be considered for most games released on the Xbone so it won't be as much of a paperweight as it was last gen.

I don't get the complaints, this is nothing but a good thing and it's indicative of a willingness to change.

As for "why" to buy an Xbone, now that they've done this, the answer's simple. Same reason you bought your PS3 despite it having worse hardware compared to the 360, exclusives (provided you didn't get a timebomb 360). If the exclusives appeal to you, then that's why you get it. PS4 definitely has the edge on multiplats (just like 360 did), unless you're like me and have a gaming PC. If you have a good PC, then you just the console you want the console-exclusives for.

Speaking of hardware failure, now that it's approaching summer in the states, it's time for the stress tests for the new consoles. Best of luck to all of you with PS4s/Xbones.

Edit: Anyways, the fact that MS is in a position of weakness like this and they're finally taking all this feedback gets me really excited for E3. You have to remember that the PS3 was behind for a few years before it finally gained some steam and broke through (because they started dropping quality exclusives while Microsoft decided to focus on the Kinect).

I rented it back during the week of release (when PSN was hacked and offline for over a month) and enjoyed the single player. If I could get it cheap I'd consider picking it up.

I understand what you are saying, but when has it ever been said that the PS3 was weaker hardware compared to the 360? I own both and do not even remotely agree with that statement. The argument was always that the PS3 was harder to develop for and therefore drove developers to the 360 instead.

If it's too hard to develop for, the hardware might as well be weaker since it provides limited returns. But you're right, I've rephrased it.

Or, it could be lazy developers. How is that Naughty Dog was able to put out 4 of the best looking and smooth running games of the gen on the PS3 (uncharted series and last of us). What about Killzone 2 and 3? God of War III? I have not really seen any game on the 360 (which, again, I own and have played a lot) that equals these games technically.

Edit: I will say that Halo 4 looked very good on the 360.

There were better ways to achieve those kind of results without alienating devs, it just would have cost Sony more money (they got their GPU contract together last minute, iirc). We'll have to disagree on that point in regards to ease of development vs. power potential. There's a difference between complicated and needlessly complicated. Perhaps, I'm biased from this interview.

Hirai also addressed the complex architecture of the PS3, which developers have openly struggled to get to grips with.

"We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so then the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine-and-a-half years?" explained Hirai.

The whole reason the PS4 has the edge this time around is because they learned from that mistake, and Mark Cerny had the brains to convince them to adopt x86 architecture (Kaz was initially opposed).

It looks like it's only about $8 on Amazon and $5 used on gamestop. Too bad the online is dead now. Good thing I don't have a compulsion for a high completion %.

Then they get shit on for years because they require a Gold sub for things like Netflix. They announce they're removing that requirement, and people complain. Sounds like you idiots just like to complain about these things. If you can t see these two things as very good moves by Microsoft, you're very blind.
 
For me, this will mean I'm actually keeping my 360, rather than selling it or trading it somewhere. Since I haven't had a Gold sub for a while, and don't have any 360 games, it was just an overweight DVD player. At least now I can watch Netflix in the living room.
 
Waited till the last minute, but bought Dragon's Crown for $20 on PS3. Cross-play is there, so no matter the version, you will have someone to play with. =)

I don't know, I sort of thought I had had enough after Gears 2, but then I played 3 and was completely blown away again. I haven't played Judgement so I'm not sure if it's grown stale at this point (though that was a different dev so it's no quite fair to say the franchise as a whole is dead from it), but I'm still very interested to see what happens to the series.

i would, cause mila is a terrible choice to hand out blowjobs.

judgment only hurt the multiplayer aspect of gears, the campaign was still pretty solid. overrun was also a really interesting multiplayer mode, but of course it was overshadowed by everyone's hate for the rest of the modes.

Yeah this is how I feel. It's basically gonna be a battle of exclusives at this point I guess. Which sucks but oh well, guess I better get used to not being able to play every game I want.

It's great, isn't it? fuck Microsoft.

And you do realize it's two groups of people right? The original complainers were ones that were interested in an Xbone but the price was too high among other issues. The new complainers are the ones who went all in for an Xbone at $500 with the promise that Kinect was always going to be bundled and supported.

The negative vocal minority is almost always going to rise to the top. I would definitely feel a little alienated if I had bought a launch Xbone. Luckily for me I'm not a moron.
