Shit. $14.99 Tearaway at BB today is making my wait for it to hit IGC harder. If only there was a way to get compensated if it ever went free....

Switch the placement of Mad Men and The Wire in this post and I agree wholeheartedly. Man oh man did nothing happen in the episodes I tried to watch of that show. I really, really like The Wire, but I don't go out of my way to recommend it to people. There is a large barrier to entry before it clicks (I ended up reading Wikipedia descriptions of the first several episodes after watching to make sure I was following it all). A lot of people (most people) don't want to have to put in that kind of effort for a show.

I know this is a joke, but the actual answer is that there is a way to get compensated. You can sell/trade/give away the game and get at least some of your money/value back. You obviously can't do that with a digital purchase. PS Plus free games do encourage some people to continue purchasing physical media for this very reason. I'm sure people like me are in the minority. I'm not complaining about getting something free that I've already paid for, I'm just purchasing my media in a way that maximizes my dollar (at least in my own twisted mind).

I am petitioning for a half-like button. I like half this post.

Man Men's not the greatest show, but it's enjoyable enough for what it is. The Wire, of course, is the greatest thing ever put on TV. Season 4? Perfection.

 
So I take it Sony is just not going to fix the Batman "sale" games no longer being on sale?

I tried on both webstore and on the Vita and Blackgate doesn't show the sale price on either.

hadn't noticed it mentioned, but the bottomless pickaxe for no heroes allowed was up when i looked in game. 7.99, definitely a better deal to go with the 9.99 mega pack, but i think i'm still gonna skip it. would have been much harder to resist if it was 4.99. rather use that 10 towards soul sac delta since it's digital only(unfortunately).

And of course they leave Lego Batman on sale. The only Batman title I already own. Hopefully they fix it before Tuesday.

I hadn't heard it was digital only. Terrible news. I figured a physical release was likely given the recent treatment of Ragnarok Odyssey Ace.

i hadn't either until yesterday. forget where i saw it, but it was at a couple sites after a google search. i was wondering why it wasn't showing up at any retailers for preorder despite it coming out in about 2 weeks.

 
My problem with The Wire is that they eat steamed crabs like every freaking show. Nobody in Baltimore can afford to eat them that often. Yes, we love steamed crabs, but that is freaking ridiculous. But I'm going to try it again. Like others I lost interest after 3 or 4 episodes, but so many swear by it as bestest show ever. In spite of the steamed crabs issue.
 
Just finished off Aldren in Infamous. Damn that tower had me on the edge of my seat. Not a huge fan of heights and the platforming on that was making me jumpy.

Buy. Play. Sell. It trades in for more than $10 at Amazon right now so just lock it in. Then it's only a couple dollar rental and you may even be able to make more selling it.

Mad Men starts slow as shit. I'm guessing I was just more patient back when I started that show. Also the '60s setting hooked me way more than The Wire, which honestly just felt like another CBS police procedural during the first few episodes.

Hmmm...for $8 I'll just wait for a potential sale on the $10 Mega Pack, or just by it full price when my backlog is smaller. Game is a lot of fun but the F2P aspect is crippling. Why not just sell it as a $10 game with a demo?

yeah, it's a lot of fun, but i don't feel the need to grind through the whole game right now. i have tons of other stuff to play, and i may even have the thing finished before the sale even happens. i hope they get enough success out of it, i do like the badman series, but i gotta feel like this will hurt them a little more than putting the game out at $8-10 initially. chances are high that i would have bought it full price after tasting the first few bits in a demo, or even after watching some gameplay.

It's a free-to-play version of a PlayStation Mobile spin-off, which adds the hero capture side stuff to play up money sink aspects of the game. This literally wouldn't exist if it weren't free-to-play, but they saw ways to add more hooks to get some money that probably makes this game more profitable/successful than the PSM version ever will be.

Well, essentially, that's what they did. It's a demo. But rather than limiting content to the first chapter or so, they severely limited the amount of time you can play per day. I'd be happy if all f2p was this way, it reminds me of shareware back in the day.

And definitely get the mega-pack over anything else - you'll want the slot unlocks, not just the pickaxe. Getting 100% is going to be an endless grind, though -- I think it's potentially going to be one of the rarest trophies on psn in my opinion, based on my experience so far. Completing the beast and hero catalogs is no joke.

Overall, I think i'd recommend a $5 price point but i don't mind that i paid $10.

Indeed, I watched the premiere of Mad Men because "Yo-Saff-Bridge" was in it and it didn't hook me, so I stopped watching. Then later when it was available on Netflix, I gave it another shot and watched a disc thinking maybe it improves with being binge watched. At the end of the first disc I had connected with none of the characters, they were all horrible people, why would I want to spend 7 seasons with them? So I've never bothered trying the show again.

If there is one thing you cannot call The Wire it is a police procedural considering the case spans a season or multiple seasons depending on which season you are watching, I don't even think there ever was a "case of the week." It is heavily serialized.

Yeah that's my plan. I had a $10 rewards certificate waiting so only had to spend $5 real monies. GameStop has an $11 trade value now, so it'll be a good rental or whatever. Slap in the face will be kept to a minimum.

I know. It's just that the term f2p has such bad connotations. Shipwreck was even tweeting about it and most the responses were from people who were just bashing the f2p model without knowing you can basically unlock the full game for $10 just like any other PSN game.

I've watched Mad Men through five seasons, and I can honestly say nothing happens. There's no real conflict or drama that ever makes you feel like the characters are in peril. Usually, the only small amount conflict you see is within the characters themselves.

Every single season of Mad Men ever:

1. Don sleeps with random women.

2. Random ad meetings that are supposed to be philosophical and somehow relate to what's going on in the characters' lives, but are really just product placements.

3. Peggy wants to be treated like one of the men.

4. Peggy complains when people don't look at her as a woman.

5. Don drinks too much and blacks out around the middle/end of the season.

6. Don feels bad about the state of his life for 30 seconds towards the end of the season. Just long enough for you to think he'll clean up his act next season.

7. Random shit with the other characters for the sole reason that viewers would get bored if every episode was Don and Peggy.

8. Someone buys the ad company or becomes a partner, or there's a merger with another company.

9. California!!!!

Pretty spot on. My biggest gripe with Mad Men is that, through 6 seasons, I still don't know what the show is about. It's not really about advertising and it's not really about the 60's, though both are incorporated into the show heavily. It's not about love, hate, anger, vengeance, growth, change, family, greed, or any other underlying theme. It's basically about a bunch of people who make (mostly) bad decisions in their life, act like they're going to change at the end of the episode/season, but then never do and the next episode/season completely forgets about the breakdown they had in the last episode. I guess you could say the show is about pride, but watching a show about a bunch of overly-prideful people refusing to change gets old quick.

I liked The Following until about halfway through the first season. Then I got sick of the whole "Anyone can be in on it" idea. And the fact that every single episode they make the police/FBI/whatever law enforcement agency they're working with out to be the biggest band of complete retards on the planet.

I watched up until the season one finale before we moved and didn't have cable for the last episode. I haven't caught up yet. Hopefully season 2 is better, and watching it all at once will make some of the flaws a little more bearable.

Agreed, I generally despise f2p because I think the model encourages terrible game design. If this didn't have a full unlock I wouldn't have bothered with it.

TV LAND

The Wire - best show ever put on television. By far. Indeed.

Mad Men - great till you hate the despicable characters so much you give up on it.

Breaking Bad - quite possible the second best show on tv.

The Following - one of the stupidest shows on tv. Dumbest fbi/cops of all time. Except the ones in on it. Requires a Herculean level of suspension of disbelief to watch with a straight face. Couldn't make it past 6 or so episodes.

Heroes - A steady, constant fall from good to absolute unwatchable crap. Unlike, say, Lost, which made that fall almost entirely in its final episode.
